The Libra Eclipse

On September 26th, the Messenger of God, Mercury, heralds the upcoming Annular Solar Eclipse as it enters the sign of Libra. Eclipses are powerful doorways where people, places, situations, things and spiritual lessons enter or leave our lives. The New Moon phase signals the beginning of a new cycle and a new chapter in the story of our lives in the Libra sector of our Astrological charts.

About Libra

Libra highlights the need to relate and cooperate with others. Libra teaches us about relationships and the development of qualities such as fairness, equality, diplomacy, harmony, beauty, balance and justice.

Libra is charming, refined and sociable. Libra wants to be liked and get along with everyone so much so that it may over compromise itself and develop co-dependent tendencies.  Although Libra is a Cardinal sign, Libra may tend to be indecisive, vacillating and complacent due to their need to be agreeable and fair to everyone. It is difficult to make everyone happy, but Libra will try.

The Aries/Libra Axis

This New Moon, Annular Solar Eclipse in Libra occurring on October 2nd, 2024, activates the Aries/Libra Axis. Aries is the self. Libra is the “other”. Notice what placements you have in the signs of Aries and Libra.

This Aries/Libra axis teaches us about an individual part of a greater whole. Somewhere in our lives there is a need to find balance between our individual needs and the needs of others. Somewhere in our lives we are asked to be fair, just and balanced. What is out of balance in our lives is pointed out to us and can no longer be ignored. Notice the state of your relationship with yourself and others.

How are you relating to your significant other, family, children, pets, friends, coworkers, neighbors and neighboring countries. How do you resolve conflict? What do you do for the sake of Peace, Balance and Justice?

Relationship dynamics at a personal and global scale are highlighted with this eclipse. We are asked to stop “othering” or pointing the finger in judgement, and instead we are asked to explore and find common ground by honoring our humanness.  One Human Family. Whether those “others” are neighboring countries or family in the room next to us. We are asked to get along and heal what needs to be healed.  We are asked to talk about things and find resolutions that work for the entire group not just an individual. We are asked to notice what is out of balance in our lives, what is unfair and unjust and find solutions. Not an easy task, but an important task that will begin during this eclipse.

Venus

The ruler of the chart is Venus, the planet of Love, Peace, Harmony and money. Venus is in Scorpio, the sign of her fall. Venus is limited in her natural expression and not at ease in Scorpio, a sign that is ruled by Mars. Venus cannot be her naturally friendly, sociable self. Venus in Scorpio is deep, mysterious, passionate and private. Mars, the ruler of Venus in Scorpio, is a ardent warrior, whereas Venus is a Lover of Peace and Beauty…two very opposing energies. And yet, Venus in Scorpio is able to hold both Archetypes.

Mars, the ruler of Venus in Scorpio, is in Cancer which is also at its Fall, and it is in an applying square to the Moon (our body, family, home, roots and emotions) and Sun (our vitality, life purpose, and sense of self). The square from Mars to this lunation is like a powerful boulder pressing against the ground, awakening a dormant volcano…the burning fire underneath the surface is so strong that it is palpable…and yet it is buried way deep under the surface, longing to burst free into the open sky. The boulder will press and push against the surface creating irritation, stress, and angst in order for the volcano to rise and release the pent-up energy. Pent up energy will be released during this eclipse.

We feel the heat under the collar building in some areas of our lives. Under currents of heightened emotions (anger, resentment, pain, frustration, longing, overwhelm and sadness, etc.) run like deep, underground river streams under the surface of people who smile and pretend everything is ok. Notice what is not ok. Notice what hurts. Notice what needs attention within yourself or in your relationships. Notice the under currents. Listen and attend to what is underneath. Something wants to come to the surface.

Read between the lines and notice the elephants in the room. The elephants will get louder and bigger. Notice the things you don’t want to see, address or deal with. They are the boulder pressing against the volcano.  The elephants in the room want to run free, and they will. This eclipse is pressing for change and change is coming whether we like it or not. The Universe is always seeking balance. Balance will occur.

Mercury in Libra

Mercury in Libra is asking us to think about things and find constructive solutions. We are asked to explore new ways of speaking and relating with others. Balance, fairness and justice in communications and interactions is key. Mercury is helping us.

Mercury is under the beams of the Sun, invisible from sight.  Mercury came to visit the Sun, the significator of God, and in the Temple of Light, we are being given tools to improve our relationships with ourselves, others and the world.

Surrender

Venus is applying to a trine, a positive aspect, with Mars in Cancer and Saturn in Pisces. The Sun and the Moon are near the South Node in Libra. We are asked to surrender something. We are asked to surrender a way of relating that no longer works. We may even be asked to surrender a relationship or the way a relationship has been operating.

Something in our Libra sector is losing energy, power or interest.  Somewhere in your life you are being asked to let go of a heavy burden. Somewhere in your life you are asked to let the volcano flow…. Somewhere in your life, you are asked to surrender, release and let go of the deep undercurrents keeping you stuck and stagnant. You are asked to lighten the load. Free your heart. Open your mind. Breathe. Open the door and let the Elephants run free!

From a global perspective, there is a deep desire worldwide for diplomacy and peace, but it seems difficult to attain. The south node in Libra shows that the ways we have been going about attaining peace and justice are no longer working. We have to find new ways of relating with one another. Expect a lot of back-room conversations, secret deals, agreements and political moves happening behind the scenes. A lot is hidden from public view. Yet, I will tell you this…Jupiter is watching.

Jupiter in Gemini

What is fascinating about this Eclipse chart is that Jupiter, a significator of God, Divine Order and Divine Justice, is in Gemini the sign of siblings, neighbors and communication. Jupiter is getting ready to retrograde at the time of eclipse. Jupiter in Gemini will retrograde on October 9th , exactly a week after the Libran Eclipse takes place on October 2nd.  Jupiter will be working behind the scenes between now and the next eclipse season. Jupiter is a bringer of Truth, abundance, Wisdom and Justice. Jupiter also rules long distance travel, foreign lands, education and abundance. Jupiter helps us grow and expand and become better versions of ourselves. Jupiter expands our view so we may see things from the perspective of our Soul and the Divine. Jupiter will open our eyes to something we were not able to see or understand. Truths will be revealed. We will be getting wiser and smarter in some areas of our lives.

Jupiter in Gemini will move out of the retrograde next April and when it does, it will activate the same degrees of the lunation. Jupiter will go direct at Gemini 11 degrees and 16 minutes, activating the Libra Eclipse Sun and Moon at 10 degrees and 03 minutes as well as the Mercury in Libra degrees at 11 degrees and 32 minutes. What does that mean? That something that began during this eclipse will culminate or reach some sort of important movement or conclusion during and around April and Spring of next year. If you have any placements in your Astrological chart at these degrees or in Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) and at Cardinal (Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn) expect some sort of powerful, transformative change in your life.
