For Us
If I told you that I didn’t care,
I be lying.
I do care.
I care that the Sun is setting faster than I can catch up.
I care that the waves are rising and we may not know how to swim.
I care about you.
About your future.
About where we are headed.
And all I can say to you is that I’ll hold your hand.
I’ll stand by you as the sky falls.
I’ll stand by you when the last rain comes.
I’ll grief with you what we could have done and did not do.
I’ll hold your hand and never leave you.
I care.
And because I do, I won’t give up.
I’ll rise today and tomorrow and the days after that,
And do what I can for you,
For me,
For us.
