Sun and South Node in Virgo

Meditations on the Sun and South Node in Virgo.

The Sun symbolically illuminates the areas of our lives that are ready to be looked at so we may grow and become better versions of ourselves. I’ve been recently meditating on the Sun’s yearly transit through Virgo. This year the Sun and the South Node met in the sign of Virgo. Highlighting what we need to surrender, transform, release and let go in the Virgo sector of our charts and our consciousness.

One of the greatest gifts of Virgo energy is criticism. In Virgo’s quest for perfection, it points out every flaw and imperfection so as to correct, fix, repair and improve the self until a state of perfection is reached. Of course, no one and nothing is ever truly perfect. But the quest is the driving force for the Virgo energy. Virgo’s quest is to master and perfect the Self. It will purify and eliminate anything within itself or around them that does not meet the standard of perfection it is looking for. Let me give you an example:

A Virgo grandparent may see their grandchild going out with an old, worn out t-shirt and say, “you are going out like that?!” At first glance, it sounds like criticism but if we look deeper and read between the lines, we see that what the Virgo grandparent may be saying is something like “Is this the best version of yourself? Is this how you want the world to perceive you?” So, what appears to be criticism is actually a loving way of saying, I think you can do better than that. The Sun and South Node in Virgo are asking us to become aware of our own self-criticism and of the ways we seek perfectionism in our lives and within ourselves. And as we become aware of our self criticism or criticism of others, can we look under the surface and see the real meaning of our critical perspective? What is criticism really saying? The South Node in Virgo also points out habits of thinking or behaving that are no longer serving us. Notice how this is showing up in your own life.

Virgo seeks to reach its highest potential and highest expression in its most perfect version. It does do by pointing out the flaws, imperfections and mistakes so we can fix, repair or improve ourselves. But if we look even deeper what Virgo is looking for is its purest form. This is why one of its symbols is a Virgen. Someone or something that is pure. Innocent. Untouched by the “imperfections” of being human. The only thing that can come close to that level of perfection is the Soul. Virgo is seeking for the pureness of the Soul within the Human Self. This is why it shares the axis with Pisces. Pisces leads us into the space of consciousness where the Soul/Spirit/God can be accessed.

The Virgo/Pisces axis can be a symbol of our journey from imperfection into perfection….from human into Soul in human form. Essentially, the manifestation of our potential on Earth.

So, as the Sun has been traveling with the South Node in Virgo, we have an opportunity to notice our own self-criticism in a loving, kind and understanding way. We have an opportunity to understand our self-talk and transform it in a way that can serve us and help us truly become better versions of who we already are within.

For me, it comes up at the gym. I notice my own self-talk and self-criticism. I notice the ideals I create in my own head about how I should or could look like. As of late, I have chosen to change the narrative. I have come to accept what is as it is and make the best of it. Accept that I can only look like me, and that that can be perfect to me if I choose to (even if its not perfect to anyone else but me). I can choose to see my own rare, and unique beauty. Every person on Earth is unique and cannot be replicated. Not really. There is only one of you in the entire Universe. There must be a reason for that. Even identical twins are not completely identical. Your uniqueness is beautiful and serves a purpose. And perhaps as unknown and mysterious as that purpose can be, it can be perfect. Your uniqueness makes you perfect.

As the Sun in Virgo teaches us we can come to a place of acceptance of ourselves and in that acceptance celebrate the rare beauty that each of us carries in the unique expression of our spirit.

What if you were already perfect? What if that was the point? That you come to realize that there is nothing you need to do, to change or fix or make improvements on…what if the actual purpose was for you to become more you. What if being you was enough? How can a flower in a garden become more beautiful? It can’t. It doesn’t have to. It simply is what it is, and that is enough. You are like the flower. You are enough just as you are right now.

So, now I look at myself in the mirror and say…ok little flower….go bloom!

May your personal journey through this Sun in Virgo period illuminate your heart and mind to the perfection that already exists within you, and I say to you the same blessing and Grace I gave to myself…go bloom little flower, little tree spread your branches….go shine under the Sun…and bloom!
