The Little Bird Teachings

The Teaching of the Little Bird

A baby bird was laying on my balcony facing up. It appeared to be hurt. It was alive but it wasn’t moving. It simply was looking up and being very still. Of course, I helped it. I moved it so as to see underneath it, in case its wings where broken. I wasn’t able to see what was wrong as the baby bird took flight as quickly as I moved it.

I know that when Birds visit is always for a reason. Birds are messengers from God. I sat for days with the symbolism of its visit, and it is until today that I realized why it happened. I thought of the quote by DH Lawrence, ‘I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.'

There was courage in the little bird as it seemed to be accepting its fate. It simply lay still. Breathing. Being. And I thought of when we are hurt, how it may help to simply be still and allow the healing to occur. I thought of a broken heart and how hard it is to heal from one. And the little bird message seems to be saying: Heal by sitting still. Breath through it and accept what is, as it is.

Meditation can bring healing when we sit with our emotions or difficulties. When we sit as one would with a dear friend…simply holding space, observing, breathing, allowing and embracing. Embracing our emotions as if they were dear friends. Listening to them. Allowing them space to breathe and to be.

The little bird came with a lesson for all of us. Be still. Breathe. Allow what is here to be as it is. Don’t resist life. Allow it to be. If something comes, embrace it. If something goes, allow it to fly away.

Life is always teaching us. Listen.
