I recently saw a documentary on the Japanese practice of "kintsugi" which involves repairing broken pottery or glass with gold, highlighting the breaks and imperfections rather than hiding them. This art form is inspired by "wabi-sabi," which teaches us to embrace the beauty of impermanence and imperfection.
Nothing lasts. Everything changes. Everything is impermanent. Eventually in our journey of life we come to accept this truth. The beauty of each sunrise and sunset teaches us this every day. Each day is different, unique, perfect and imperfect all at the same time. We can notice the shift in light from blue to pink to purple to black as we move into dusk and into night. Life is a moving stream across the landscape of time and space. We are held in the stream. We choose how to view and experience the journey as we are guided by the stream. Whether we choose to go with the stream or not…. the stream keeps moving…life keeps going.
Saturn teaches us about life, reality and time. Saturn shows us our life as it is. How it is including the good, the bad and the ugly. Saturn is a taskmaster and a Lord of Karma. Karma is not a punishment, it simply means what you sow you reap. Every thought, word, action and intention have a consequence. Saturn teaches us how we got here to this very moment in time, and in the same token, Saturn teaches us how to build anew. Saturn teaches us to face the reality of our circumstances in order to change them.
Saturn is changing signs this weekend. Notice new people coming into your life this week and next as they may be Teachers that bring in the Teachings of Saturn in its new sign. Sometimes we have people in our lives that will play the role of Saturn for a moment in time to teach us valuable lessons. My mom, for example, did this yesterday for me (on the last day of Saturn in Pisces). I wanted to buy a pair of sunglasses, and I asked her how she thought I looked with them on. I always go to her when I want the raw, unedited truth about things. She tells it how it is. And her honest facial expression was a gift.
When I was younger, I would have thought “my mom thinks I’m ugly,” but now I know better. She reflects my own thoughts about myself back to me so that I may grow and mature (Saturn Teachings). As an adult, the practice of kintsugi has helped me accept that I am imperfectly perfect. That I must place gold with acceptance, understanding, patience and self-care on the areas within me that are broken and imperfect. I accept that I will never look like a model. I will never see myself as completely beautiful, and that’s ok, because I accept me as I am – I accept the good, the bad and the ugly. Saturn teaches us that there is beauty in imperfection, that there is power in acceptance of what is as it is. Saturn teaches us to find the gold within. Saturn helps us see beauty when we forget what beauty really means.
Saturn leaves the sign of Pisces this weekend. Saturn in Pisces began on March 7, 2023, and will end on May 24, 2025. Notice the spiritual lessons you have learned since then. Notice the people, places, and things that came and went during this period. Notice your placements in the mutable signs as they will get a break from Saturn starting this weekend.
Saturn enters Aries
Saturn, planet of time, reality, karma, order and responsibility enters the sign of initiative and courage, Aries, on May 24th 2025. Notice your Natal Chart placements in the Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) as these will feel the energetic shift. Saturn in Aries will benefit the Fire and Air placements in your chart and will challenge your Earth and Water placements.
Important Dates:
Saturn enters Aries May 24, 2025.
Saturn retrograde in Aries: July 13, 2025.
Saturn re-enters Pisces (retrograde): September 1, 2025.
Saturn re-enters Aries (direct): February 13, 2026.
Saturn leaves Aries: April 12, 2028.
Saturn is coming to teach us how to align our personality with our Soul, and it’s view of reality, time and the karmic consequences of our lives. Saturn teaches us to view life through the eyes of our Soul. Yes, with kindness and compassion but also with raw, unedited truth. Saturn teaches us about what we have reaped and what we have sown. So we may ask ourselves, what do I wish to sow now? What do I wish to reap in my life? Saturn helps us build our reality. Saturn helps us use our time on Earth wisely. Saturn teaches us about mastery…self-mastery. Notice how you can practice mastery of the self as Saturn enters Aries.
Notice your placements in the Cardinal signs as Saturn is coming to teach us how to set boundaries; create or break down structures in our lives; how to overcome limitations and blockages; and how to become more disciplined and authoritative in our own lives. Lastly, Saturn teaches us about isolation, solitude and renunciation. While Saturn visits your chart, you get an opportunity to explore a deeper connection with yourself. To create more alone time. Time for reflection, meditation and contemplation. Yet, Saturn will be in Aries, which is a fire, dynamic and creative sign. Saturn will want to be creative, explorative and adventurous. Somewhere in your life Saturn comes to light the inner flame. Somewhere in your life you are inspired to be the Hero of your Story. Somewhere in your life Saturn is waking you up to what is possible. Somewhere in your life, Saturn is asking you to join the stream of life, that continues to flow forward and upward. Saturn is coming to knock at your door this weekend. Pay attention. Notice the signs. Listen. And most importantly, remember you hold the key to the door. Open it when you are ready. Life is ready for you. The stream awaits.
