Weekly Astrology 7/13-7/19
Week Ahead Astrology 7/13-7/19
Last week, Venus met with the South Node of Fate as we approached the Dark of the Moon. Both entryways of release, surrender and death. We have let something go and a chapter has closed. We are getting ready for the next chapter in our lives.
The New Moon in Cancer, taking place on Tuesday, is the door into a new beginning. New Moons are the seeding place of the Moon Cycle. There is a New Moon in every sign during the year and this one is all about the sign of Cancer. The New Moon in Cancer takes place on July 14th at 5:43am EST, at 21 degrees and 59 minutes of Cancer. Notice what placements you have in the Cancer-Capricorn axis, as well as in the Cardinal signs as these points in your chart will be activated during this period.
We have an opportunity this week to start something new and re-start in a fresh new way in an area of our lives - A clean slate is possible. The New Moon is conjunct Mercury in the chart. Mercury is retrograde until July 23rd but won’t leave Cancer until August 9th. So the Mercury Cancer frequency will be with until the first weeks of August. From now until then, the energies of this New Moon will still be active in our lives.
Notice what you have been learning about yourself, your life and deeper callings and desires since Mercury entered Cancer in June 1st of this year. Why so much emphasize on Mercury? Mercury in Myth and Astrology, presents the Messenger of God. He is able to go into the underworld/hell and rise into the upper world/Heaven. He delivers Messages from the Divine into our minds and hearts in the form of dreams, inspiration and foresight. So, we have been receiving clarity since June. We have been asked to review, revisit, repair and evaluate some part of our lives, mainly the Cancer/Capricorn axis in our charts. Mercury is retrograde and is asking us to look within for clarity, answers and understanding.
Cancer teaches us about family. Notice your place in your family. Notice the role family plays in your life. How you define it and how it defines you. The Mercury Retrograde in the sign of Cancer is asking us to look at family. What needs to be rebuild, repaired, and renewed in your connection with your family? Cancer teaches us about belonging, where do you belong? Truly? What is family for you now? In addition to “blood relatives”, who or what is part of your tribe? Cancer teaches us to nurture and care those with love. How can I show more love and care and support to those I care about? The other piece in this equation is you. How are you being cared for? What needs are not getting met? Do you need to speak up about your needs? Cancer teaches us to mother not only others but also ourselves, and most of have trouble with that. Cancer is asking to nurture and care not only for others but also for ourselves.
Cancer also teaches us about home, the past, and vulnerability (emotional intelligence):
Home
What is the current state of your home? What works and what doesn’t? Some important questions to ask at this time would be, do I feel at home here? Is this home? Where and with whom do I feel at home? What is home? Home is a sacred haven. A place of safety, privacy, intimacy and comfort. A place or state of mind where you can be your whole self. What is home to you? Learn to find home within yourself. Also, look at your physical home. Its current state. What needs to be fix, repaired, improved? This would be a great time to work on home improvements.
The past
As Mercury travels retrograde through the sky, we have an opportunity to look back at our past. As the New Moon begins a new cycle in the sign of Cancer, we have an opportunity to see our past with fresh eyes. We can learn from the past, rewrite and reframe it. If it feels appropriate, notice the areas of your past that have not healed. Do the inner work. Face the demons of the past. Do the shadow work. Look at yourself in the mirror and the part you played in every situation in your past. Face your choices with Grace. Take accountability. Forgive yourself and others. Remember, being human does not come with an instruction manual. We learn by making mistakes.
Whatever your past, know that you can’t go back to change it but you can learn from it. You can become a better version of yourself because of it. A person that is wiser and smarter and stronger because of it. I saw someone wearing a T-shirt recently that said: “But You Didn’t Die!” Exactly. You didn’t. You are still here. Maybe life has worn you to the ground, maybe you have been so badly wounded and hurt that you thought you were dead…But it didn’t kill you. You are still here, and the game of life is not over yet. So, get up. Shake it off. Really, shake it off and choose to move forward. You are the Hero of the story and the Angel that will come save you. The New Moon in Cancer is giving us an opportunity to clean up the past, truly leave it behind you and learn from it.
Vulnerability
We learn early on to adapt to our environment. Part of that adaptation is building walls against the world around us. The symbol of Cancer is a crab. Soft inside with a hard shell. The hard shell protects the soft inside. Much like in humans, we learn to protect our vulnerabilities by adapting our behavior to the world around us. We learn not to cry in public. We learn to smile even if we are suffering inside. The New Moon in Cancer is asking us to face our hard shells.
There is a powerful Teaching from Rumi that is helpful during this New Moon period, “Your task is not to seek for Love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Notice your internal barriers. Notice how you protect yourself. What walls and barriers are serving you and which are not? What defenses are worth keeping and which are not? Break the walls. Open your heart. Let Love in and out.
How can I be more vulnerable? There is part of you that is completely innocent. A place of peace where no human has been. A place where only you and God visit. This is the most intimate, innocent part of your being: the inner space where your Soul resides. This New Moon gives us an opportunity to explore this space within. To get to know our vulnerabilities. To face our Soul. To visit the innermost part of our heart space. It is a place of mystery. It is the place where you meet God. Explore it during this New Moon Phase.
When we are vulnerable we expose our heart to others. Can you be more vulnerable with yourself first? Can you expose your heart to you? Really look and listen to your heart? That’s the opportunity right now.
Emotional Intelligence
The New Moon and Mercury Retrograde in Cancer are giving us an opportunity to enhance our emotional intelligence. By emotional intelligence I mean two things: one, our ability to respond intelligently to life and two, our intuition.
Cancer is sensitive, moody and highly emotional. Cancer teaches us about our emotions and feelings. We can become aware of our emotional reactions to the world around us. Notice how you react to the world around you. Notice your emotional responses. Notice your triggers. Notice your habitual responses. Notice your reactive behaviors. And ask yourself how can I make better choices? What is your baseline and how can you improve it? As the Gen Zs would say, how can you maximize your emotional intelligence during this New Moon Phase?
Intuition
Lastly, The New Moon and Mercury Retrograde in Cancer are teaching us about our intuition. Cancer represents the stomach. The gut feeling. That feeling of, “I just know…” The deep inner knowing that we feel in our body. Notice how you use your intuition. How can you sharpen it? As a Teacher of Intuition, I would say one place to begin would be to notice the difference between your Ego and your Soul. Explore how both aspects of you show up in your daily life. Notice the difference when your Ego tells you to do something versus when your Soul tells you to do something. The New Moon is giving us an opportunity to start a new habit, write a new chapter, and do something differently. Notice your intuition and how it shows up in your life. Listen to your gut feelings more. Make use of it.
Another exercise to practice while Mercury is in Cancer would be to keep a dream journal. Write down your dreams. Notice reoccurring themes and symbols. Ask your Soul to give you messages through your dreams.
