New Moon in Capricorn
I love the silence of early morning, when the world is still asleep. I walked while the world remained still and watched the clouds move through the gray skies above me as the Sun began to rise. Their pace teaching me patience and giving my heart peace. The world would soon awake, and the day would move forward as it usually does, but for now the silence enveloped me…only the sound of a hawk at a distance and a rooster announcing its morning, and all the while the Great Watcher above silently witnesses our lives and awaits our next moves here on Earth.
On December 30th at 5:27pm EST we will have a New Moon in the sign of Capricorn. It will be the first New Moon since Pluto left the sign. Pluto was in Capricorn from 2008 until this Fall, and has now moved into the sign of Aquarius. This New Moon will bring in a new chapter for all Capricorns and the placements we have in our Astrological Charts in Capricorn. At first, we may not be aware or awake to the seed being planted by the Divine in our lives. But pay attention. Keep a close watch and you will see it, sense it and feel it. A new page is being written, a new direction is emerging and a new path will unfold as the veils of mystery clear much like the clouds clear and reveal the blue skies that have always been there.
The New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 9 degrees 43 minutes. Notice what placements you have from 7 degrees to 11 degrees Cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) in your chart as these will be influenced by the energies of the New Moon. These are the sectors in your chart that are getting a brand new beginning since 2008!
Capricorn Lessons
During the Winter Solstice, the Sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, marking the darkest day of the year. We enter the dark and we rise back into the Light during Capricorn Season. Capricorn teaches us perseverance. Capricorn is drawn as a sea goat, capable of swimming into the deepest and darkest parts of the ocean and climbing into the highest mountains, reaching the highest point of Light. Capricorn teaches us fortitude and inner strength and the courage to go on when we want to give up. This is why Mars is exalted in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is a warrior. Capricorn will focus its energy on the goal and will do everything in its power to get what it wants. Capricorn doesn’t give up.
However, right now Mars is retrograde until Summer next year, and we are being taught to kneel. We are being taught to be humble and put the sword down. We are being taught to slow down and rest. We are being taught to walk to the top of the mountain and bow our head to the skies that watch over us. We are asked to listen to the Divine.
It is in the Capricorn sector of your chart that a new beginning will unfold between now and when the Sun enters Cancer next year. The seed is being planted now during this New Moon but the growth of the sprout will be seen by next summer. Notice your Capricorn sector and what you want to create, plan, grow or become in that area of your chart. What do you want to manifest into your life?
Capricorn teaches us about the manifestations of our goals and dreams. What are you manifesting into your life for next year and currently? Capricorn teaches us about being practical, responsible and mature, and doing the responsible, sensible and mature thing when no one else does. They tend to be the Elders of the bunch (even when they are children). Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. Saturn teaches us to be dependable, structured, systematic, hard-working, ambitious, deliberate, efficient and reserved. Capricorns tend to be pessimistic and melancholic by nature. So, it is important that they connect to the Sun (as the warmth of the Sun helps soothe Saturn). Doing Sun-related activities can help them find joy and fulfillment. Sun activities include being in nature, being creative, hopeful and joyful, laughing and being childlike.
Capricorn teaches us about duty, career, work and life purpose. During this New Moon phase take the time to explore the current state of your career, work, life purpose and where you want this to be by next Summer. Plant the seeds of new ideas, goals, plans and dreams. Get organized. Create a plan and get to work. Think about long term goals. Find practical undertakings. Get ambitious and believe in yourself and what you are capable of doing and becoming. This is a great time to create a vision board for your career and life purpose.
Finally, Capricorn teaches us to be disciplined. I often struggle with this word because I don’t think it really represents what Capricorn is about. I think the proper word would be Devotion. Capricorn is devoted and in complete humble service to what it loves. It will give its heart and all its energy to the people, places and things it loves. Capricorn teaches us about deep devotion and the service of the Soul to what it is devoted to. During this New Moon ask yourself, what am I devoted to? What lights the fire within my heart? What am I in service to? What inspires me and guides me forward? Who and what am I devoted to and why? Get devoted. It’s time.
May this Capricorn New Moon awaken within you the next steps in your life. May we take the lessons from Pluto in Capricorn and move forward into a new dawn. Take the hand of the Divine and keep walking…soon you’ll see where the path is taking you, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride!
