The Full Moon This Week

On July 21st 2024 at 6:18am EST, a Full Moon occurs in the sign of Capricorn.

There’s a lot to say about this Full Moon:

A Full Moon is a time of culmination, completion and illumination. It is a time when the promise and opportunities of the New Moon can reach fulfillment.  What did you give birth to during the New Moon in Cancer on July 5th 2024? What new intentions, ideas and prospects came into your life at the time? What was  birthed at the time of the New Moon, now has sprouted seeds that are growing and maturing. The Light that was birthed during the dark of the New Moon is now growing in the sky. Now, there is more Light. Thus, more clarity. We are “awakened”, “illuminated”, “aware” in the Cancer-Capricorn Axis of our natal chart. Notice what has been revealed to you since the New Moon on July 5th.  Notice what has changed, shifted, or transformed in your life or consciousness since early July.

The Full Moon activates the Cancer- Capricorn Axis on your Natal Chart. Notice what placements you have in those signs as well as all the Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) as these are being powerfully activated by this Full Moon and by Pluto.   

About the Cancer-Capricorn Axis

The Cancer-Capricorn Axis speaks about finding balance between family, home and work life. It also speaks about finding equanimity between our emotional needs and ambitions. Cancer brings awareness to our emotional life. We become aware of what we need in order to feel secure, loved and cared for. Capricorn, on the other hand, teaches us about responsibility, duty and practicalities in everyday life. Cancer symbolically represents the Mother, and Capricorn the Father. Together they speak of our family lineage and family tree. What have you learned from your Mother and Father? How are these spiritual lessons showing up in your life at this time?

Cancer represents the home and family. Capricorn represents work, career and social achievement. Notice these areas of your life. What is out of balance? What needs to be transformed or changed? This Full Moon brings an emphasis to finding balance between home and career, between our emotional needs and our desires for work and career accomplishments. Are you burning the candle at both ends? Are your burned out? If so, make the time to explore self-care.

Both signs are Cardinal signs, which means that they seek to achieve something. Cancer seeks to achieve emotional comfort, emotional warmth, security, privacy and protection. Whereas, Capricorn seeks to reach its goals and achieve success and accomplishment. Both seek a sense of permanence and safety. But in reality, there is no such thing. Life is constantly changing, evolving and transforming. Nothing ever remains the same. Life is in constant flux.  We must simply learn to ride the wave.

The Ruler of the Chart is Conjunct Pluto

The chart is ruled by the Moon. The Moon is at the 29th degree of Capricorn moving towards an out-of-sign conjunction with Pluto in Aquarius.  Saturn, the ruler of the Moon, is in Pisces retrograde until November 15th. There are two very powerful significations to this conjunction, one is that it occurs at the Anaretic Degree and the other is that it conjuncts Pluto. Why is this significant?

The Anaretic Degree asks us to acknowledge the penultimate step before we cross the threshold into a new sign. The shift of a planet from one sign to another often represents a big change in energy and signals a new chapter, a new journey and a new beginning. Yet, a door must close before we are able to open a new one. The 29th degree is a liminal space. An opportunity to pause, meditate and contemplate on what has been learned since the planet entered the current sign. It is at the 29th degree that we begin to graduate from one phase and prepare to move into the next.

During this Full Moon the Anaretic degree points to the big change from Pluto in Capricorn to Pluto in Aquarius.

What it means for all of us?

Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, entered the sign of Capricorn on January 2008. Pluto is in Aquarius from January 20, 2024 through September 1, 2024, it goes back to Capricorn in September of this year to complete the journey that began in 2008. Then, re-enters on November 19th 2024, when it will stay in the sign of Aquarius until March 8th 2043. A new epoch begins…

This shift will be felt mostly by the Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) and Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn).

Pluto will leave the Capricorn sector in your Natal Chart It won’t come back to that sector in our lifetime. Think back to what your life was like back in 2008-2009, and notice where your life is now. How has your life changed? How have you changed? I often compare Pluto to a tornado…when a tornado comes it can wipe everything up, and you have to start from zero. Pluto represents death and rebirth. Another transformational process that comes to mind is that of a caterpillar into a butterfly, and Joseph Campbell’s teachings on the Hero’s Journey.

In the work of Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s journey demonstrates clearly the energetic shift we are experiencing as Pluto changes signs by the end of the year.  The Hero has taken a journey that has forever changed them. The Hero is not the same person that began the story and the journey and at some point the Hero realizes that. They realize that they can’t go back to the life they had, things will never be the same again. Not only have circumstances changed but so has the Hero. The journey itself has transformed the Hero.  Just like the butterfly can never go back to being a caterpillar, and living the same life of a caterpillar. So, the Hero has been irrevocably changed. When Pluto enters an area of our lives, there can be irreversible change and permanent alteration.

This Full Moon signals the re-entering for one last time of Pluto into Capricorn. It signals the end of an epoch in our lives. We are wrapping up the lessons learned from Pluto in Capricorn and we are being called onto a new Hero’s Journey. Rest. Meditate. Contemplate. Get ready. Pay attention to what shows up in your life and in your awareness during this Full Moon.  Listen to your intuition, insights and dreams as guidance and hints will be given to you into the new beginnings and new chapters yet to be written in your life.
