The first week of August is packed with powerful energies. The New Moon in Leo takes place on August 4th and later in the evening on that day, Venus enters the sign of Virgo. What’s powerful about this particular shift in signs is that Mercury is in Virgo stationed getting reasdy to turn retrograde on August 5th. So the energy of Mercury not only is in essential dignity, which makes the planet strong, but is also stationed (additional strength and power), so its almost as if the planet is hovering over us on the degrees in which the planet is currently stationed. Imagine a helicopter like energy right on top of you! Telling you, “hey! I’m here! can you see me?.” Yeah, that’s the energetic expression of Mercury right now. Something is suspended in time. Something is being pointed out to us individidually and collectively in the area of Virgo, and we are asked to look at it carefully. We are asked to pay attention. Notice where Virgo is in your Aatrological chart and what placements you have in that sign.

Also, notice where Mercury and Venus are in your chart. Both planets are working together right now.

Mercury is representative of mental processes such as speech, writing, communicating and interacting with others. Mercury in Virgo is teaching us discernment. Whereas, Venus rules all things having to do with the heart. Venus points to what we want and need. Venus teaches us about love, pleasure, sensuality, beauty, harmony and peace. Venus teaches us to connect with others and with our own heart. Venus is the principle of cohesion and relationship.

Mercury is about to go retrograde from August 5th through August 28th. So the entire month of August has the potential of being a reflective month in the area of relationships, finances and the Virgo sector of our chart. Mercury will work with Venus throughout the month until Venus changes signs to Libra on August 29th.

Mercury, Virgo and the Retrograde

Mercury represents how you think, communicate and interact with the world around you.  As Mercury goes retrograde and works closely with Venus this month, we are asked to re-assess, review, revise, revisit, repair and rebuild something in our Venus and Virgo sectors of our Astrological charts. It is a time to find what needs adjustment, upgrading and fixing.

Virgo is often associated with the Hermit Tarot Card. In the Waite Tarot Deck, the Hermit looks to the lantern that holds a bright star. The hermit searches for clarity, answers and direction. The star in the lantern represents the North Star, a star of Divine Direction and Hope. The Hermit walks the path alone so as to look within for answers, guidance and hope. Similarly, Venus in Virgo with its rulership in Mercury in Virgo Retrograde is asking us to look, deep within for answers. We are asked to become retrospective and introspective, as we go over the lessons learned in our Venus and Virgo sectors.

This Mercury Retrograde is a powerful time of self-reflection and course correction. A time to meditate on the path we have taken. Is the path taking us somewhere? Or are we walking in circles? Is it time to walk down a different path?

As Mercury travels through the shadow period, the retrograde and post-retrograde-shadow period, more will be revealed to us to help us see the path ahead. Hidden or previously unknown information may be revealed to help us see things clearly in order to make decisions and changes.

Mercury is often associated with the Greek God Hermes. Hermes held a caduceus in his hand. The caduceus is a symbol of commerce, negotiation, trade, alchemy and medicine. As Hermes works with the Goddess of Love, there is great potential for healing and restoration is areas ruled by both planets. If you have been wanting to make changes in your business, career or work/home balance this would a time to explore your options. Notice what is out of balance and seek to restore equanimity. This is a great time to explore new ideas and new connections in areas of career, business and work.

Also, Mercury in Virgo and Venus in Virgo is a great time to work on health.
