New Moon in Cancer (Part one)

There’s an area by my  home where the water floods and creates a sort of pond. Nature grows around it. Migratory birds and native ducks hang around it peacefully. In moments like this I recall what a science teacher once told me, where there is water, there is life. Water is key to life.

On July 5th at 6:57pm there will be a New Moon in the sign of Cancer, the first of the water signs in Astrology. Among other significators, water in Astrology represents the emotional body. Cancer represents the surface of the water, the way we enter water…think of a sea shore…the way your feet enter into the deep. Cancer teaches us to enter the depth of our emotions and feelings. Cancer takes us deep within into the vulnerable spaces of the heart. Cancer seeks nurturing, mothering, caring and protection.

The glyph of Cancer represents a crab. Hard on the surface, soft on the inside. The crab carries its home on its on back. Cancer teaches us about security, comfort, home, family and roots. We learn to define what home is and how to find it within ourselves in the sign of Cancer. The gentle and soft layers of the heart are held protected and looked after under Cancer. Cancer teaches us to protect ourselves and our vulnerability, innocence and purity.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The planet of the Mother, the Feminine Principle, the physical and emotional body. Cancer teaches us to mother ourselves, to nurture and care for others. In the sign of Cancer we learn about our emotions, feelings and intuition. We become Masters of our own waters.

Just like the pond created by rain by my home. The Universe gives us an opportunity during this new Moon to nurture something new in our lives, or feed something back into life. We recognize the areas within us that need feeding, mothering, protection and care. We become aware of how we truly feel about things. Emotions and feelings rise to the surface to help us receive clarity and direction.

We recognize what our needs and wants are. We are called to create and connect with family and tribe. We are called to soothe and calm our waters. We become aware of our vulnerabilities so that we may learn to hold the innocence and purity within us with care and gentleness. We learn to soften. We learn to rest in the arms of the Universe.

This weekend, take the time to connect with yourself and the places within you that need care. Care for you. Hold you as you would a dear friend or loved one. Your feelings, emotions and intuition are speaking and giving guidance in preparation for the New Moon. Sit with yourself and listen.
