New Moon in Cancer (Part Two)

On July 5th at 6:57pm EST a New Moon cycle begins in the sign of Cancer.

About the New Moon

The New Moon occurs in the sign of Cancer, where the Moon is in her rulership. Making the Moon a powerful statement in this chart. The Moon is out of bounds in declination which means that we can expect significant ups and downs. A planet or luminary out of bounds means that it has difficulty setting boundaries and tends to do whatever it wants whenever it wants to. It tends to color outside the lines. Keep your boundaries in check. Balance your emotions and mind your words and actions.

The Moon represents emotions, feelings, instincts, intuition, habitual responses and unconscious behavior. The Moon shows us how we seek security, comfort and support. The Moon represents what we need to feel emotionally fulfilled and sercure. The Moon represents what we hunger for. Notice what needs and wants are not being met as they may surface more clearly during this New Moon cycle.

With the Moon out of bounds and ruler of this New Moon in essential dignity, we are asked to focus on emotional fulfilment and areas of our lives ruled by the Moon. We are asked to balance and care for our emotional wellbeing. Notice any extremes in your energy, inner or outer conflict, and seek to find inner peace and equanimity. Calm the waters of your spirit. Ground. Breathe. Connect.

The energy of Cancer and the Moon teach us to master our emotions and feelings. We are also being taught to connect and listen to our intuition, emotional security, family and hearth. We are asked to pay attention to our home and family. How at home do you feel in your life? How supported and cared for are you? How are you caring and supporting others around you? Practice self-care and show your caring to others.

The New Moon is Conjunct the Fixed Star Sirius

Although I am not an expert in Fixed Stars astrological delineation, there are a couple of Fixed Stars that I do take into consideration in my work with Astrology. In Ancient Astrology, the Fixed Stars where seen as closely related to the frequency of the Divine (more than the Planets) because the Fixed Stars would appear to not move in the sky as often as the Planets did (whose movements seemed erratic and unpredictable as they would move back and forth on the ecliptic plane). It was thought at the time, that Fixed Stars mirrored the unmovable, unchangeable and stable energy of the Divine.

Ancient Astrologers used Fixed Star alignments to delineate and create powerful Astrological charts for countries, kings and battles to be had. They would purposely choose a time and date to begin major events that could influence a country, its people and the world. For example, some of the Founders of this country were Freemasons (Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, to name a few) who may have been knowledgeable in Astrology and Astronomy. Thus, it is no mistake that the Sun in the Natal Chart of the United States of America is conjunct the Fixed Star Sirius. The Fixed Star Sirius was considered a very favorable star.

“According to Ptolemy (Famous Astronomer and some say Astrologer) it is of the nature of Jupiter and Mars... It gives honor, renown, wealth, ardor, faithfulness, devotion, passion…and makes its natives custodians, curators and guardians.” [Robson, p.208.]

Arguably, the United States is considered a “guardian” or “custodian” of the rest of the world. The Sun’s conjunction to the Fixed Star Sirius, set this country to be a predominant influence in the entire world. Jupiter is the planet of Kings, bringer of prosperity and good luck.  Mars is the planet of will power, drive, assertiveness and warriors. The influence of Jupiter and Mars as natures of the Fixed Star Sirius can be seen in the way the United States interacts with the rest of the world.

The fact that this New Moon activates the United States Natal Chart before the election is held is quite significant. Whoever the country chooses as its leader (The Sun represents the King or Ruler/Leader of a country) will have a significant impact in the rest of the world. Because Venus is involved in the New Moon, the choice of leadership may greatly impact world peace and the world economies. Expect unprecedent times ahead!

New Moon in Cancer conjunct Sirius

The New Moon conjuncts Sirius. Sirius is a binary star  in the constellation of Canis Major, “Big Dog,.” The phrase, “Dog Days of Summer” comes from the heliacal rising of Sirius or Alpha Canis Major. Egyptian and Ancient Native American cultures also considered the Fixed Star to be blessed and lucky in nature and associated with dogs, wolves, prosperity, fortunate events, fertility and rebirth.

This is an auspicious New Moon Phase that points to new, fortunate opportunities.

What does this mean for the rest of us?

A New Moon phase is an opportunity to start something new. To start again, fresh and renewed. We are given an invitation to start a new chapter and plant a new seed in the area of our Natal Charts where Cancer is located.

The New Moon occurs at 14 degrees and 23 minutes of Cancer, influencing, in a powerful way, any placements in your Astrological Chart at approximately 12 to 16 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). Notice what planets or points you have a these degrees as they are activated quite powerfully during this New Moon (if you need a more in-depth look, schedule a session with me).

The New Moon is also co-present with Venus. So the energies of Venus influence this New Moon. Venus brings opportunities for love, abundance, peace, balance and beauty. There is a focus on family, home and emotional matters.

The ruler of the current Moon Phase is the Moon in Cancer, which as I mentioned earlier is in her rulership. Making this New Moon very powerful and fertile. So ask yourself, what do you want to plant in the fertile ground of your life? What do you want to manifest? What are you now ready to begin? We can birth something new in the garden of our lives. We can grow something that has the potential to be fortunate and blessed. Notice what changes and transformations your life is asking you to make. Take into consideration the past as the Moon also rules the past, nostalgia, memories and childhood. Learn from the past and choose your future wisely. Every action and choice we make weaves our lives. What are you weaving into reality? What kind of life are you creating for yourself?

The Universe is blessing us with a new clean slate. How will you use it?
