Your Weekly Astrology Part One: Mars Pluto Opposition
Mars, the planet of passion and war, will re-enter the sign of Leo this week and will be in opposition to Pluto, the planet of death and transformation on April 27th, 2025. The next two weeks bring in intense, powerful energy that can make a significant impact at a personal and collective level. This will be the last of a series of three oppositions between the two planets. Check out my previous blogs on the matter. The first opposition occurred back on January 2nd, 2025, think back to what was showing up in your life in the last week of 2024 and the first week of January 2025. Notice the themes and spiritual lessons around that time and now.
Every planetary energy can express itself in a “positive” or “negative” way. Let’s explore both…
Symbolically, Mars is the initiating energy and force behind any action we take. Pluto represents the principle of death and rebirth. Pluto is also known as Hades, the God of the underworld. Pluto is life-altering. Pluto is the process of transformation that a butterfly goes through as it shifts from caterpillar into butterfly. It is the process of death of one life chapter and the entering into another. I’ve seen in client’s charts, Pluto transits show up as divorces, deaths and loss of jobs and careers. It can be profound, irreversible change. Pluto is the journey of the Dark Night of the Soul. We go into hell and find our way out and back into the Light. When I think of Pluto, I think of a sentence in my favorite prayer:
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Pluto teaches us to find the Light by going into the Dark. But this time, its both. Mars and Pluto together It’s quite a combo!
Somewhere in your life, Pluto is meeting with Mars. Asking you to make changes. Difficult and uneasy changes. Whether these changes are coming from you, or someone around you or from life itself. Mars is wanting to take action and Pluto is pushing for it. Both create a sense of inner or external pressure, like that volcano breaking through the surface of land. The change can be anything from wanting to change jobs, careers, relationships, or something within your own self. When Pluto and Mars meet is a life altering experience.
Here's some ways, I’ve seen Mars-Pluto transits show up in hundreds of charts as a Professional Astrologer:
It can show up when you met someone you are crazy and deeply passionate about. It can show up as a forbidden love interest or affair. It can show up as a physical illness (such as rashes, infections and even Covid). It can also show up as a deeply, passionate intimate encounter. It can show up as a violent act such as abuse or rape. It can show up as car accidents or speeding tickets. It can show up as fires or volcano eruptions. I’ve seen it show up as death or physical attacks or explosive showdowns. It can show up as an incredibly creative period of time for artists. It can show up as an explosive temper tantrum. It can show up as an intense need to make a choice or take an action. It can show up as a standoff or duel. It can show up as highly competitive energy and drive. It can show up as wanting to win at all cost (most likely to show up right now in the news in countries and between World leaders). I’ve seen it also show up as an internal, personal transformation of a person’s psyche. The way they see and experience the world, dramatically changes. Pluto often brings irreversible change.
While Pluto, the God of the underworld, represents intensity, pressure and control. Both forces going against each other can be quite transformative to say the least! Pent-up energy may come to the surface like a sleeping volcano. It is very important before this transit takes place that you are paying attention to how you are feeling under the surface of things. Whatever pent-up energy you’ve got, take care of it. Journal write. Go for a walk. Talk to someone. Speak up about how you feel. Find ways to cope with stress, anxiety and fear. Pluto pushes and presses against Mars. Mars tends to represent anger, frustration, passion, resentment, and energy overall. When the expression of Mars is healthy, energy comes and goes easily through the person’s body and in their life. Energy is easily expressed. But when there is an unhealthy expression of Mars, what seems like a burst of frustration can turn quickly into a moment of rage. Watch your temper. Watch other people’s tempers. Mind your interactions with others in the next two to three weeks. Stay balanced, cool, calm and collected.
The Remedy
Mars-Pluto can teach us about self-control. We can learn to tame our emotions and passions. We can learn to control our actions. We can learn to choose wisely by balancing our mind and heart. For example, during a Mars-Pluto transit, you might be crazy passionate about someone who’s married or taken. Or you may want to jump from one job to another. Or you may want to tell someone off. Mars-Pluto is intense and driven and often passion overwrites the mind. Temper passions. Slow down and think before you act. Think about cause and effect. Let your Soul guide you.
During a Mars-Pluto transit we can choose to slow down and take our time before taking any action. Think things through before you act. Balance heart with mind, and mind with heart. Be patient and connect to your inner wisdom. Do the wise thing.
A positive way to use these energies is to notice where in your life you can be more in control. Notice how you use energy. Remember, where attention goes, energy goes. Where is your attention? How are you using your mind? How are you spending your energy and time? Where do you want your energy to go? Mars teaches us about energy. Pluto teaches us about focus and control. Does your energy lead you? Or do you lead your energy? Who is the Captain of your ship? Mars-Pluto teaches us how to steer the wheel where we want it to go. Mars-Pluto teaches us to take the wheel, choose a wise direction and drive. It is a powerful teaching that we have an opportunity to learn right now.
Notice how these energies are showing up for you in your life. Powerful change is happening right now at a personal and collective level. Somewhere in our lives or consciousness, transformation is inevitable.
